In the last few years atomically thin materials have become a central field of research in solid state physics. The discovery of many different atomically thin semiconductors such as Phosphorene, MoS2 or In2Se3 has derived in the development of diverse atomic-scale prototype devices, such as photodetectors, field effect transistors, or solar cells. However, from a technologic point of view it would be desirable to be able to produce atomically thin materials on demand, controlling their optical and electronic properties to make them fit the needs of each specific application. In this talk I will discuss some of the different strategies that can be used to modify the optical and electronic properties of atomically thin semiconductor crystals in a controlled way, presenting some experiments carried out as part of my recently finished PhD Thesis.
