Zernike Institute researcher Danny O'Shea received VENI grant

Dr. D.O.S. (Danny) O'Shea, postdoc in the group of Prof. Caspar van der Wal, received a prestigious VENI grant from NWO. Veni is part of the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme. It allows researchers who have recently obtained their PhD to conduct independent research and develop their ideas for a period of three years. O'Shea received the grant for his proposal "Quantum optics of spins in semiconductor waveguides". Below you will find a brief summary of the project:

"A quantum mechanical memory can be used to store optical pulses in a communication network in order to eliminate the possibility of eavesdropping. By using new materials and exploiting new control techniques this research will design and explore a semiconductor-based quantum memory with a robust device-on-a-chip approach."
