Marleen Kamperman receives KNCV public award

Yesterday, Ocober 9th, Marleen Kamperman received the public award of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society - KNCV. De prize, called Van Marumpenning was handed over by the recipient of 2016, Jan van Maarseveen. The prize is awarded to a chemist who improved the development and importance of chemistry for society. Kamperman received the prize at the Avond van de Chemie, the annual festive event organized by the chemical society for its members.
Kamperman is researcher and inspiring teacher and participates in many outreach activities. She took the initiative for "Kennis op straat", a program where scientist explain their reseacrh to a broad audience. Kamperman was also co-organizer of the successful Science Café In Wageningen and participated in activities for pupils at basic schools. In 2017 Kamperman won the national science quiz.
Her driven and enthusiastic way of talking about chemistry inspired both kids and adults. The jury sketched her as a role model for young people who are up to start a career in chemistry. Her enthusiasm gained her the votes of the KNCV members, who were able to vote for three nominees. Besides Marleen Kamperman also Jos van den Broek en Ernst Homburg were nominated. Marleen Kamperman is professor in Polymer Science at the University of Groningen.
