Zernike Institute's computational design center becomes "Berendsen Center for Multiscale Modeling and Material Design"
The Zernike Institute's computational design center, headed by Prof. Siewert-Jan Marrink, has changed its name in honor of one of the founding fathers of computational modeling: Prof. Herman J.C. Berendsen.
The Berendsen Center consists of four core computational groups of the Zernike Institute. The expertise ranges from quantum mechanics, all-atom and coarse-grain molecular dynamics all the way to continuum methods, spanning the time and length scales from the quantum modes of individual molecules to the aggregate behavior of millions of particles in bulk materials.
Encompassing the main themes of the Zernike Institute, the Berendsen Center aims to establish high-throughput modeling platforms for design of advanced materials, focusing on materials for efficient energy transport, complex hybrid materials, and materials with bio-inspired functionalities, in close cooperation with experimental groups for validation.
