Much to explore: biophysics, perovskite solar cells, nanostructured materials, colours of chemistry or nanoscience

Our aim is to train a new generation of researchers in cross-disciplinary approaches to research and equip them with the diverse skills required by modern science.

• In our interdisciplinary Top Master Program Nanoscience students are trained to experience top-research in a multidisciplinary envrionment. The program was repeatedly assessed as excellent by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization and is also decorated with the highest evaluations in national study guides.
• In order to promote interactions with industry, our institute started the High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM) Honours Master in cooperation with the University Honours College, the University Campus Fryslân, the University of Twente and Philips Consumer Lifestyle. This program is established in the same multidisciplinary fashion as the Top Master Nanoscience to tackle real-life product development challenges.
• Above that, our Institute is particularly responsible for the Smart Materials tracks in Physics and Chemistry.

The links below lead you to more information on Master programs related to the research activities of our institute.

Top Master Nanoscience (general)

Nanoscience is the study of the fundamental and functional properties of matter on the nanoscale (~10-9m). The challenge for scientists is to understand the fascinating world of small length scales.

Top Master Nanoscience (in detail)

Next to a short introduction you find detailed information on who can apply, the admission procedure, financial support, the curriculum and many other aspects of the program

High Tech Systems and Materials Honours Master

Excel together at the frontiers of knowledge
Are you looking for an extra challenge during your Master’s degree? Would you like to be trained by excellent scientists and optimise your chances on a high profile industrial or PhD position? Would you like to deepen your knowledge of your own field, yet also join forces with students from other (technical) disciplines? Are you up for challenging real-life product development assignments on the forefront of innovation in the High Tech Systems and Materials (HTSM) sector? Then the High Tech Systems and Materials Honours Master may just be what you are looking for!

MSc Physics

The University of Groningen has a long-standing tradition of high-level physics research, with the highlight of the Nobel Prize awarded to Frits Zernike in 1953.

MSc Applied Physics

The Master's degree programme in Applied Physics offers an excellent combination of fundamental research on the one hand, and an open eye to possible industrial applications on the other.

MSc Chemistry

How can I make a flexible solar cell out of organic molecules? Can I build a car engine on a molecular level? Can I synthesize life? Can I cure tuberculosis?
