Research on neuromorphic touch covered in ERCIM news
Recent results in the field of neuromorphic touch by the BICS group in collaboration with the IIT Genoa, Italy as part of the H2020 NeuTouch project have been published in the special theme ERCIM news 'Brain-inspired Computing'. Together with Ella Janotte and Chiara Bartolozzi (IIT Genoa) the BICS team describes a neuromorphic approach to sensing and local processing of tactile signals. They use the event-based information coding of biologically inspired tactile sensors to encode stimuli and a spiking neural network to extract stimulus information. This system, operating in real-time and on low-power consumption, can be used for robotics and protheses.
