Young Academy at Noorderzon
The Young Academy was at the Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival which took place from August 17-27 in the Noorderplantsoen in Groningen. The annual festival is a cutting-edge international arts festival combining theatre, arts, music and literature with social events in a beautiful park setting.
During the festival, the Young Academy together with Science Linx helped to organize Evolve, a multi day program focused around evolution, including workshops on extract DNA from a strawberry, how are lefthanded people different from righthanded people, how dinosaurs are just one evolutionary step, and lectures on evolutionary processes such as "survival of the fittest" and finding suitable mating partners through animal communication and colorful display.
Young Academy member Marthe Walvoort also gave a childrens lecture on "What are sugars actually?"
One of the missions of the Young Academy is to strengthen the ties between academic research and society by engaging in fun and engaging public outreach activites.
