Looking back: ECR lunch on Inclusion in Academia
ECR Lunch: Inclusion in academia
On October 9, 2019, the Young Academy hosted a very successful ECR Lunch on inclusion in academia (>60 participants). The aim was to map out the challenges for diversity in our university, but also to empower ourselves to create a more inclusive culture in our own work environments. The outcomes of the lunch will be presented to the Diversity officers and the University Board so they will be able to incorporate those in their policy making. After listening to talks, we grouped up to brainstorm about challenges and solutions for inclusion in academia.
- Susanne Täuber provided scientific insights into how to create an inclusive organisation.
- Jasper Knoester explained what he does as a diversity officer
- Petra Rudolf discussed experiences with lack of inclusion and possible solutions to these problems.
- Ella Sebamalai provided a personal perspective and discussed what policies on diversity and inclusion need improvement and why.
Recommendations resulting from insights of the lunch will be presented to the Diversity Officers and the University Board.
