Title: ‘Cosmic acceleration in quantum gravity’

Abstract:
I will discuss recent developments in the search for phenomenologically viable vacua that give rise to the observed dark energy in string theory.  Particularly, our universe’s accelerating expansion can be explained if we are “riding” an expanding bubble in a higher dimensional vacuum. This work provides a well-motivated alternative for model building in string cosmology that sidesteps many of the difficulties connected to compactifying extra dimensions and breaking supersymmetry.
