Minor Instrumentation and Informatics

This 30 ECTS minor is an oppertunity to explore how astronomers obtain their astronomical data. It consists of six courses from which four of them, "Control Engineering", "Materials Science and Engineering", "Principles of Measurement Systems" and "Statistical Signal Processing", each 5 ECTS, are compulsory. All courses are taught in the first semester. The courses are taught in English.

Aim of the program
In 2005, Kapteyn established a Masters track “Instrumentation and Informatics”, in collaboration with ASTRON, SRON and KVI-CART, to fill the need for future generations of instrument builders and software designers with an astronomy background.
. The minor Instrumentation and Informatics gives a first insight in the instrumental challenges involved in the field of Astronomy.

For whom?
The programme is open to students from the BSc. Astronomy or the BSc. Physics.
