Astronomer Jan Borgman passed away on May 26. Jan Borgman was a former professor at the Kapteyn Institute (then still a Lab) and founding director of the Kapteyn Observatory (until 1995 in Roden). He was also dean of the faculty, head of the university board and chairman of NWO. Jan Borgman stood at the foundation of the first Dutch Astronomical Satellite (ANS) and Dutch Space Research in general. As such, he has been of significant influence on astronomy in Groningen and nationally.
