Prof. dr. Hugo van Woerden, 1926-2020

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the news that our very dear colleague and friend, Huug van Woerden, passed away Friday, September 4, at the age of 94, after a short illness.

Our most heartfelt condolences and sympathies go out to his wife, his family and those around him.

Huug was a great colleague and a friend to many of us, remaining very active until the last moment. With Huug we have lost a deep-rooted connection to the early days of the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute and radio astronomy, with a career spanning more than seventy years. Huug will always have a special place in our hearts, and he will be missed.

Again, our hearts go out to those nearest to Huug.

On behalf of the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute
Léon Koopmans, Director
