Geometrical proof by Indonesian student teachers
Learning to prove is one of the prominent learning objectives in mathematics education at secondary and tertiary levels in many countries. Understanding proof requires understanding of mathematical concepts as well as the structure of proof. Research has shown that many students face difficulties to understand, validate and construct a mathematical proof.
In this project Indonesian student teachers from Malang State University are provided with digital tools (digital geometry system) and heuristics (flow chart proof) to foster their understanding of proof in plane geometry. One of our results is that an intervention using a flow chart approach fosters students’ reading comprehension of geometrical proof.
