Research

Research at ICOG brings together a wide range of disciplines across the Humanities, which study a variety of facets in cultures and societies from the Classical Antiquity to the present day. The institute's focus lies on Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and since 2015 China and South-East Asia.

ICOG is comprised of five Research Centres and is home to 190 staff members and 171 PhDs. The institute stimulates interdisciplinary research and collaboration between the centres, as well as between some of the University of Groningen’s faculties.

In the external assessment of 2016 ICOG scored very good on the indicators of quality, (societal) relevance, and vitality.
