Update new 'Brugklasdictee'

This semester, I (Daphne Schut) have been working on writing my thesis within the CDD. During my research, I continued the research that was initially started last year by Roos van der Veen. She started the development of a new, revised version of the screening instrument Het Wonderlijke Weer, which was transformed into De Magie van Muziek. In her study, she primarily focused on the application of the test in  first year vmbo-classes. Her findings demonstrated that the revised test is a reliable and valid screening instrument for first year students in vmbo education.

In my research, I focused on the application of the De Magie van Muziek in havo/vwo and vwo+ education. In addition to examining the reliability and validity of the test for these levels, new norms were developed. The results showed that De Magie van Muziek has good reliability for first year students in havo/vwo and vwo+ bridge classes. Furthermore, significant differences were found between students with and without dyslexia, as well as between the scores of vmbo students and havo/vwo and vwo+ students. These findings provide support for the validity of the test. The results also indicated that there were no significant differences between havo/vwo and vwo+ students, allowing for a single norm.

In conclusion, based on these findings, the revised test De Magie van Muziek appears to be a suitable screening instrument for havo/vwo and vwo+ first year students, just as was found for vmbo students. However, further research remains necessary to confirm these results. In addition, future studies are important to make the test applicable to all levels of secondary education for the early identification of spelling difficulties.
