Zernike Webinar: Thomas Kämpfe (Frauenhofer IPMS, University of Dresden, DE) - "Ferro-Electronics: From Memory to Neuromorphic Computing"

When:Fr 16-12-2022 09:30 - 10:15
Where:BlueJeans (link in email Announcement)

Novel computing principles inspired by the brain promise vastly different ways to process information with extreme energy efficiency and the ability to handle the avalanche of unstructured and noisy data that we are generating at an ever-increasing rate. To realize this promise requires to bring together various research levels. In this talk we will discuss the holistic research carried out in my group at Fraunhofer IPMS, which is needed to harness the full promises of cognitive or brain-inspired computing. I will present the developments from material development & optimization of ferroelectric thin films of hafnium oxide, its integration into memory devices & modelling of such ferroelectric memories mainly ferroelectric field effect transistors, their array implementation with required peripheral circuits, accelerator architecture and deployed algorithms for convolutional and spiking neural networks.
