NRC article on Neuromorphic Computing featuring CogniGron
Last week, NRC published an article on neuromorphic computing in the Netherlands, in which CogniGron plays an important role!
The article describes how our researchers develop neuromorphic computers by drawing inspiration from the brain of a fruit fly. Using an artificial nose and a computational model of specific neural circuits of the fruit fly, they are able to reliably distinguish between different odours, despite the fact that the gas sensors themselves are not very selective. This demonstrates how even extremely simple biological brains can process information with remarkable efficiency.
At CogniGron, the Groningen-based research centre for neuromorphic computing, scientists from a wide range of disciplines work together to translate these principles into new forms of computer technology. The groundbreaking work of Prof. Elisabetta Chicca and Prof. Beatriz Noheda is highlighted in the article.
