Prof. Ghazisaeidi: "I will present a reexamination of stacking fault energy (SFE) and the assumptions surrounding the equilibrium dissociation of lattice dislocations in concentrated alloys. Traditional models based on elemental fcc metals, where SFE is a unique material property, often fail to accurately predict SFE in alloys. To address this, atomistic simulations are conducted in a model alloy with varying compositions and average SFE values. The study investigates the dislocation dissociation
process, analyzing the forces on partial dislocations and the influence of local effects on SFE.
Additionally, the potential energy barrier caused by solutes hindering the motion of partial dislocations is estimated. The results reveal that the interaction between dislocations and local solute environments significantly affects partial dislocations, which explains the discrepancy between experimental and computational predictions of SFE."
