Polar bear predatory behaviour

Research by Jouke Prop

Polar bears are specialized hunters adapted to catching seals on the sea ice. How then do they perform when feeding on prey in an environment that is novel to them? We record behaviour of polar bears when feeding on eggs in bird colonies and while travelling and searching for food along the coastline. Do they behave to maximize the daily energy intake?
