Dr Marlies Hesselman and Patricio Trincado Vera (LL.M.) receive YAG interdisciplinary research grant for project with FEB en UCG

Marlies Hesselman (assistant professor of International Law) and Patricio Trincado Vera (PhD candidate), both working in the Transboundary Legal Studies Department of our faculty, have received a YAG interdisciplinary grant. With the help of that grant, they are starting a collaboration with researchers from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) and the University College Groningen (UCG).
Research on human rights of indigenous peoples, energy transition and lithium mining
Hesselman and Trincado Vera received the grant for interdisciplinary research on human rights (of indigenous peoples), equitable energy transition and lithium mining in South America. The grant encourages interdisciplinary collaboration and involves two co-researchers in the project: economist-philosopher Dr Melissa Vergara Fernández (FEB) and cultural geographer Dr Julia Doornbos (UCG).
The project will last one year and will conclude before summer 2025 with an interdisciplinary workshop for the Business and Human Rights working group of the Rudolf Agricola School on Sustainable Development.
YAG interdisciplinary grant
The aim of the YAG-SER grant is to develop innovative ideas. It is designed to be a step towards a larger project, such as an application for substantial funding from an external funder, a new teaching track, new modes of instruction, or the formation of a large-scale consortium to work on a new theme with internal and external partners.
