Marcu Florea (PhD) wins Fulbright Student Award

Marcu Florea, PhD candidate at the Security, Technology and e-Privacy (STeP) research group at our faculty, recently won the Fulbright Student Award. Along with this award, he will also receive the Research Grant from the Fulbright programme, which will allow him to spend several months doing research in the United States of America later this year.

Fulbright Visiting Scholar

Florea will join the George Washington University Law School as a Fulbright visiting scholar between September 2023 and June 2024. He will continue his research within IT law there, focusing on consent for processing personal data in biomedical research. In doing so, the ultimate aim is to better understand the American approach to regulating the processing of personal data in health research.

Project KnowGraphs

Florea completed a Bachelor’s degree in Law at the University of Bucharest in 2013. In 2016, he obtained his Master’s degree in International and Comparative Private Law at the University of Groningen, cum laude and with honours.

He is currently working as a PhD student at the Security, Technology and e-Privacy (STeP) research group of our Faculty within the project KnowGraphs which is funded by the EU Research Framework Program Horizon 2020 and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. The objective of that programme is to make KnowGraphs available to businesses of different sizes.

Fulbright Programme

The Fulbright Programme is one of several United States Cultural Exchange Programs, which aims to improve intercultural relations and competences between the United States and other countries. Founded in 1946 by Senator J. William Fulbright, the programme is now one of the best-known and most prestigious scholarships in the world. With it, students and researchers awarded a Fulbright Award are given the opportunity to travel to the United States to demonstrate their research and teaching skills.
