Bachelor student Linda Zajkiewicz receives Best Advocate General award

Second year LLB International and European Law student Linda Zajkiewicz , won the Best Advocate General award at the European Law Moot Court Competition (ELMC). She was most successful in convincing the jury in Luxembourg with her plea.
UG's first ELMC team
Two months ago, Zajkiewicz travelled to Lund, Sweden, to compete in the regional ELMC competition. She was supported by a coaching team consisting of Alexander Schuster, Melisa Bursali, Elena Kukovica, and PhD students Bashar Fteiha and Jamie Behrendt. Together with fellow students Roan Buma, Finley Quinn and Rebecca Iversen, Zajkiewicz formed the first ELMC team of the University of Groningen.
Finals in Luxembourg
The team started acquiring knowledge and preparing arguments for the regional competition in September last year. Eventually, Zajkiewicz managed to win that competition, which earned her a place in the finals in Luxembourg. That final took place last week and once again Zajkiewicz proved victorious. It earned her the Best Advocate General award.
European Law Moot Court
Established in 1988, the European Law Moot Court is an annual international competition between student teams from different universities who have an interest in European Union law. On 1 September, a case is posted online for participants to prepare. 80 to 100 student teams then submit their pleadings by the end of November. The submissions are anonymized and distributed to the ELMC judges, who carry out a double-blind marking of the pleadings.
Ultimately, 48 teams are allowed to compete in the moot court portion of the competition. That part is divided into four regional finals. Those finals take place in February and are organized at different universities. The winners advance to the European final, which takes place in Luxembourg in April. In the end, Zajkiewicz managed to score on all parts with a positive final result. We warmly congratulate her!
