The discussions during the conference focused among other things on cyber threats emerging in a variety of scenarios, strategies for creating and maintaining resilient public infrastructures and ways of dealing with digital security in the application of the Internet of Things.

Evgeni opened the summit with a keynote presentation entitled “Fighting the Cyber Battle in the Age of Digital Chaos”, in which he reflected on trends, issues and challenges in the area of cyber security. He pointed out the importance of security of network and information systems to the functioning of modern digitised societies and emphasized that it must become an on-going process requiring organisations to focus not only on external but also internal and supply chain vulnerabilities.

There is a need to adopt a holistic approach to cyber security, ensure a high level of compliance with applicable legal instruments and engage in effective and sustainable cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders.

In addition, Evgeni was part of the panel consisting of three experts who looked into various questions concerning the evolving regulatory landscape and specifically discussed the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Among other things, he shed some light on the implementation of the GDPR requirements, the necessity of protecting personal data and raising awareness about obligations of those who are involved in the processing operations and rights of data subjects and the role that universities play or should play in this regard.
