Dimitry Kochenov invited as expert in front of LIBE committee of European Parliament

Prof. Dimitry Kochenov has been invited to testify as an expert in front of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament. The hearing next week will focus on the most acute aspects of EU citizenship law, particularly the citizenship law of Brexit and the general developments of EU citizenship in the broader context of EU law.
The concept of Union citizenship was introduced in the Treaty on European Union, signed in Maastricht in 1992. Union citizens enjoy the right to move and reside freely in other Member States, to vote and to stand as candidates in municipal and European elections, to petition the Parliament, to apply to the European Ombudsman, and to enjoy in a third country the protection of the diplomatic and consular authorities of any other Member State.
In the testimony, Prof. Kochenov will draw on the findings of the major book on EU Citizenship Law which he edited last year from Cambridge University Press.
