Last year, I pursued the master programme Governance and Law in Digital Society.
Although the master programme is a LLM, it is taught at UG Campus Fryslân (in Leeuwarden) and not at the Harmonie Complex in Groningen, which is home of the Faculty of Law. I chose this master because I am interested in solving societal problems and believe that our society will only digitalize more. With this in mind, it is exciting to see to what extent I can contribute to seizing opportunities that new technologies provide while the risks are mitigated.

One of the most interesting things about the master is the interactive character of the classes. Also, we had to write and present a lot with regards to the analysis of the study materials. These two skills are highly desired in the working field and the master provides a safe academic space where you have the freedom to express your thoughts in discussion with lecturers and classmates. In addition, the master focuses on digitalization in a broader sense; privacy, the effect of algorithms in decision making, cyber security, and cybercrime are all topics covered in the courses.

In hindsight, I definitely have the feeling I am ready to put my knowledge that is gained by this LLM programme to good use in solving societal problems.
