Going abroad

If you are looking foward to working in an international environment after graduation, it helps to demonstrate your international and corresponding language skills. One way to do so is to study or complete a placement abroad for a period of time. This allows you to demonstrate openness to other cultures. You have the oppurtunity to develop your intercultural competencis, improve your language skills and show that yu have what it takes.

Global & Intercultural Engagement Distinction

As one of the component of our Language & Culture Policy, the University of Groningen would like to offer you the possibility of following a full, extracurricular Global & Intercultural Engagement Distinction (GIED) qualification. The GIED allows you to broaden your language and intercultural skills and to increase your labour market value. The Faculty of Law is running the pilot programme for this qualification, which means that your are among the first who can benefit from this.

Placements

A placement is a very good way to acquire practical experience but also to figure out whether a certain profession or a specific organization fits your needs and interests. After a placement, you will be more self-aware and have better sense of what your want or do not want in your career. You will also be able to provide examples of competencies that you have developed and things that you are good at. This self-awareness provides a head-start in acquiring a job and the work experience is a good addition to your CV. In the past, students have taken placements at legal offices both in the Northern Netherlands and in the Randstad area, in local government, at the public prosecutor's office, in the judiciary, at consultancy firms, at embassies etc.
