Program
-
Eye contact VR - Gregory Mills, Faculty of Arts, UG
It is anticipated that people will increasingly socialize in virtual reality. However, researchers still understand very little about this new medium. To help bridge this gap, this project investigates how people build shared understanding with each other in VR, focusing on the role that eye-contact plays in establishing trust.
-
Controlling an avatar - Raoul Bongers, Movement Sience, UMCG
The goal of this project is to develop a VR application in which joint angles of the upper arm control the movements of an object in the application. The challenge is to measure joint angles with high spatial and temporal resolution and connect this to the VR application.
-
Geospatial VR - Gerd Weitkamp, Faculty of Spatial Sciences
To make informed spatial design decisions, spatial analyses have to be performed to understand the geographical context and spatial features. Therefore we develop a toolset that can use the same spatial datasets in both GIS and VR, and links objective spatial analysis and subjective immersive Virtual Reality experiences. We want to research how and to what extent such a toolset can support the iterative spatial design process.

The revolting body: Self-disgust as a key factor in anorexia nervosa - Klaske Glashouwer, Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, UG
The goal is to develop a VR prototype that creates the unique opportunity to expose individuals to their own “future fat body”. After testing this prototype in a proof-of-principle study, I aim to use it to study self-disgust as core mechanism in anorexia nervosa and develop an innovative intervention.
