Rosalind Franklin Fellow Dorina Maria Buda officially installed
On Monday 10 November 2014, seventeen new Rosalind Franklin Fellows were installed at the University of Groningen. The Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences is Dorina Maria Buda. Rector Magnificus Elmer Sterken and Prof Ingrid Molema, Chair of the RFF Committee, stressed the importance of the Rosalind Franklin Fellowship programme, which has been designed to create room for talented woman scientists as well as to increase the number of woman scientists with a permanent appointment at the university.
Dorina Maria Buda is the newly installed Rosalind Franklin Fellow in the Department for Cultural Geography at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. Dorina’s plan is to establish a research agenda in geographies of tourism at the University of Groningen.
Her goal is to explore and understand spatial and societal transformations through mobilities of tourism in places and times of socio-political turmoil. The focus is on emotional and affective examinations of and in tourism. These are needed to inform development of social policies based on promotion of inclusive societies that value peace and wellbeing, accept diversity and differences.
Dorina’s first monograph titled Affective Tourism: Dark Routes in Conflict will be published with Routledge Taylor & Francis in 2015.
