DNB President Klaas Knot to visit anniversary exhibition on predecessor Duisenberg
On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the University of Groningen, the 200th anniversary of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and the good relationship between both organisations DNB President Klaas Knot is to visit the university on Thursday 17 April. Knot is Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business and will give a lecture to staff and students on monetary policy. At 16.00 hrs. he will visit the exhibition ‘400 years of science’ in the Der Aa-kerk, and he will pay particular attention to the section “From Wim Duisenberg to Klaas Knot”.
Both Knot and Duisenberg († 2005) studied Economics in Groningen. Duisenberg was DNB President from 1982 to1997 and Knot has held this position since 2011. The building of the Faculty of Economics and Business was named after Duisenberg in 2010. Duisenberg was appointed the first President of the European Central Bank (1998 – 2003). Knot was appointed Professor at the RUG in 2005. He opened a permanent exhibition on Wim Duisenberg in the building with the same name.
RUG anniversary exhibition
The anniversary exhibition on 400 years of science in the Der Aa-kerk shows the rich history of the RUG, and gives a look at the future at the same time. Part of the exhibition is the theme “Standing still and in motion’. From Wim Duisenberg to Klaas Knot’, where, for instance, the special relationship between the DNB and the RUG is a focal point. The exhibition can be visited between 10 April and 27 June, Tuesdays to Sundays, from 10.00 till 17.00 hrs.
