Research meeting Energy & Sustainability

04 February 2013

In the context of the new Energy & Sustainability research program within the Faculty of Law, the Groningen Centre of Energy Law (GCEL) held its semi-annual research meeting for its members in the Hayema Heerd near Oldehove on Friday, 18 January 2013. The twenty participating lecturers, researchers and PhD candidates were updated on developments in GCEL projects and the Energy & Sustainability research program by Professor Martha Roggenkamp (Director of GCEL), Professor Hans Vedder, Associate Professor Edwin Woerdman (Co-Directors) and Professor Marcel Brus (leading the research programme together with Professor Roggenkamp) . Subsequently, the research programme was presented and discussed along with its short and medium term goals. In order to improve synergy and cooperation between the participants working in different departments, two “speed dating” sessions were held where the participants had the chance to discuss ideas and proposals for joint research. Between the two speed dating sessions, Dr Albert van den Noort of DNV KEMA provided a fascinating presentation on a smart grid project in Groningen which provided a very practical and realistic insight into tomorrow’s energy infrastructure. The successful research meeting was concluded with a presentation of the results of the speed dating sessions and identification of intended results for 2013 and 2014.
