Exposition at FEB by economist-artists: a way out of the crisis
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) presents the travelling exhibition ‘Antidotes from the Dismal Science’, on display in the Duisenberg building until March 2011. The twelve participating artists are professional economists as well as professional artists and come from Belgium, Denmark, Italy, The Netherlands and the United States. One of the exhibitors is an old friend of the faculty, emeritus professor Jan Pen, who passed away at the age of 88 at the beginning of this year. Other exhibitors are prominent names in the economic world and will show their passion in several ways including photography, video, paintings and installations.
The exposition can already be visited and will officially be opened at the festive opening of the FEB Academic Year 2010-2011, on Thursday 30 September.
The exhibition ‘Antidotes from the Dismal Science’ reflects the relationship between economics and art and shows that economists are not only interested in numbers and ratios. The first location of the exposition was the Erasmus university, where it was opened on 29 oktober 2009, eighty years after the great Wall Street Crash. A conscious choice by initiator Peter van Bergeijk, professor at the Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, who sees great resemblances between the current economic crisis and the crisis of the 30s.
