Nobel laureate Oliver E. Williamson has an honorary doctorate from the University of Groningen

The American economist Oliver E. Williamson, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics on 12 October, was given an honorary doctorate in Economics by the University of Groningen in 1989.

Williamson (1932) shares the Nobel Prize with Elinor Ostrom. Both economists investigated how economic transactions can be created outside the market. Williamson concentrated on research into the way that companies and economies make decisions.  Williamson is emeritus professor of the University of California, Berkeley.

Ostrom (1933) will give a lecture in Groningen on Thu. 5 November, as part of the Studium Generale series Darwin Today.
The lecture title is: Darwinism and Political Sciences, the Evolution of Institutions.
