FEB Marketing student Annemiek Schram’s team Winner of National Marketing Battle

In the National Marketing Battle 2009, 190 students competed for the title ‘Greatest Marketing Talent of the Year.’ After an exciting final, FEB student Annemiek Schram’s team Born with ID were chosen as the winners. According to both the jury and the audience, they invented the best strategy for acquiring more customers for a TNT Post photo service. The price is a cheque for 2,000 euros.
The National Marketing Battle (NMS) is an annual event for academic students of marketing who are in the last phase of their studies. In this year’s 19th edition, the organization presented the theme “What’s your ID?” and challenged the students to come up with refreshing and creative ways of personal branding. In various workshops and cases by sponsors such as TNT, Philips, DSM, Unilever, L’Oréal, T-Mobile, Océ, VODW Marketing, Fairchild and Alice, the participants were tested for their strategic skills, creativity and feeling for the market.
Team 'Born with ID'
FEB marketing student Annemiek Schram formed a team with students from Tilburg, Rotterdam, Maastricht and Nijmegen. Annemiek: “In the final, we were assigned a case about the TNT Post Photo service, a TNT platform for ordering and sharing photos. We as finalists were challenged to design a plan that would tempt existing customers to use the service more often. Our idea was to aim at parents through their children, for example by offering the possibility of making two albums (one for the parents and one for the child)”
Jury report
Member of the jury Wendy van Esveld, on behalf of MarketingTribune: "The four teams in the final all had a strong concept in their own way. Born with ID gave a very good presentation. Their idea was entirely different from the others, as they aimed at the children as a target group. This distinguished them from the rest." Chairman of the jury Jeroen Siegerink, manager E-Business Print at TNT Post, about the winning plan: "Born with ID centralised the parent-child relationship in a special way. The team had a clear focus on sales and complemented this with some topical trends. And they chose a relevant and familiar photo moment, the holiday."
National Marketing Battle
The NMS is organized by The Marketing Associatie Nederland (M.A.N.), a collaboration of the marketing student societies of Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Groningen (MARUG), Maastricht, Rotterdam and Tilburg. NMS Chair Anya Galama: “On the one hand, the National Marketing Battle is an opportunity for students to match their marketing knowledge against each other and to meet companies. On the other hand, the National Marketing Battle is a chance for companies to meet these students.”
