New ‘energy master’ in Groningen: the Executive Master of Finance & Control for the Energy Industry
The University of Groningen, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and the Energy Delta Institute have set up a new Master’s programme: the Executive Master of Finance & Control for the Energy Industry. The Master’s programme, that will start at the end of January, will have an international focus and is aimed at financial controllers working in top positions in energy companies. The Master’s programme focuses on themes within finance and controlling and will also deal with topics such as energy trading and financial reserves.
The programme will benefit from close cooperation between business and university and bridge the gap between practice and theory. PriceWaterhouseCoopers will provide industry knowledge and instructors for the programme. The Faculty of Economics and Business will act as the content owner of the programme, will place EMFC-PI within its current accreditation and will provide instructors. The Energy Delta Institute will host the programme and is responsible for the marketing.
New programme meets demand
The University of Groningen already offers a successful degree programme in controlling. This new programme will be the counterpart of the regular programme, with an international focus and aimed specifically at the energy sector. Programmes in this field of study meet a growing demand: the global energy market becomes more and more complex, competition and regulations increase and energy and environment are subject of growing concern world-wide. These developments have caused a great demand for more degree programmes in this area.
Groningen as centre of energy knowledge
The initiative connects well with Groningen’s ambition to be generally recognized as Energy Valley. The city already has a large number of activities related to petroleum and natural gas and alternative forms of energy, as well as a concentration of knowledge of energy and the energy business.
After completion of a two-year programme consisting of several teaching modules, graduates may bear the titles Executive Master of Finance & Control (EMFC) and Registercontroller (RC). The Master’s programme will start on 29 January, in Groningen. Some of the modules will take place in Houston, Moscow and Abu Dhabi.
