The Volkskrant Top 200 of Most Influential Dutch Persons 2008 ranks prof. Jaap van Manen from the department of Accountancy in 99th place. For the third year in a row, the newspaper charts the power and influence in the Netherlands.

Prof. van Manen is accountant and specialist in corporate governance, or good business management, with over 30 years of experience as researcher and consultant for various stock exchange securities and large companies. He wrote various articles and books about the subject. As from 1989, Van Manen has been professor in Auditing and Corporate Governance at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen. He is a partner at PWC in Amsterdam, chairman of the audit committee of the Netherlands Court of Audit and member of the Monitoring committee corporate governance, the continuation of the committee Tabaksblatt. Earlier this year, the professor stated that the introduction of the Anglo-Saxon management model (a combination of an executive and a supervisory board), which will also become possible in the Netherlands, will lead to higher rewards for commissioners since this model claims more of their time and effort. Finally, Van Manen is manager in the Dutch Society, Security and Police Foundation (under supervision of Pieter van Vollenhoven) and manager at the Rotterdam museum Boijmans van Beuningen.
