Rob Alessie professor in microeconometrics

As of 1 September 2008, Prof.dr. Rob Alessie has been appointed as professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business. He holds the new chair in microeconometrics. Microeconometrics is the discipline that carries out empirical research into microeconomic questions.

Alessie specializes in research into the economic problems of the ageing population, a theme of great social and political relevance. He is active for Netspar, an international network dealing with the problems of ageing populations and pensions. On behalf of Netspar, he coordinates the research project within the theme of “Pensions, savings, and retirement decisions”.

Prof.dr. R.J.M. (Rob) Alessie graduated cum laude in econometrics at the University of Amsterdam. He obtained his doctorate in 1994 with empirical studies into consumer behaviour, a subject in applied econometrics. Subsequently, he worked as a senior lecturer at the VU University Amsterdam and, until recently, as professor at the University of Utrecht.
In addition, Alessie worked at various academic centres, such as Center in Tilburg, University College London, CREST-INSEE in Paris, ICER in Turin and the European University Institute in Florence. He is also a member of the editorial committee of the Dutch academic journal De Economist.
