Webcast prof. Jepma - Bio-fuels: sustainable alternative or cause of food crisis?
Cheap oil is running out. What are the alternatives? Bio-fuels first seemed to be a good solution, but are now said to cause a food crisis. Professor of Energy and Sustainability Catrinus Jepma explains bio-fuels can still be sustainable. He gives four possible solutions: setting up a certification system for bio fuels, switching to second generation bio-fuels, less strict targets on bio-fuels to prevent speculation and switching to alternative fuels in the mobility sector.
His statement in the webcast: switching to other fuels as (bio)gas and second generation bio-fuels could alleviate the pressure on the oil market.
