Thesis prizes FEB for Menne Mennes, Auke Molendijk and Martin Neef
The FEB thesis prizes 2007 were presented at the new years' meeting of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) on Monday 7 January. The economics thesis prize is awarded to Menne Mennes and the business thesis prize to Auke Molendijk and Martin Neef. The jury selected the winners from the 20 highest graded theses in the academic year 2006-2007 (MSc and doctoral, economics and business).

The FEB thesis prizes are the successors of the 'FBK/BRUG scriptieprijs', which was awarded yearly to the best business thesis, prior to the merger of the faculties of economics and business in September 2007. As of this moment, the cash prize of € 1,000.- will be awarded yearly to two theses, one in economics and one in business. The goal of the thesis prizes is to heighten the qualiy of the theses written at the FEB. The winners will present their research to third year students of business and economics respectively.
Economics prize
Student of Economics Menne Mennes was awarded the prize for his thesis: 'Hedging interaction under last uncertainty: Does a firm's need to hedge increase with the extent of hedging in the industry?' The economics jury (consisting of prof Ruud Koning and prof Elmer Sterken) evaluated the thesis as original and relevant, with a very clear problem statement. The literature assessment is innovative, it has a solid theoretical base and the conclusions are well written. Because of his stay abroad, Mennes couldn't be handed the prize in person.
Business prize
The prizewinning thesis of students of Marketing Auke Molendijk and Martin Neef is titled: 'De invloed van marketing in organisaties. Kwantitatief onderzoek naar de stand van zaken van de invloed van marketing in Nederland' [The influence of marketing in The Netherlands]. According to the jury (dean prof Henk Sol and dr. Wander Jager) the thesis question is very relevant and it is a great scientific and pragmatic contribution. It has a strong anchoring in literature and the thesis has a very well organized analytical part.
