Updates: street lighting Paddepoelsterweg and project Zernikelaan

08 November 2018

Below are two updates from the Municipality of Groningen about infrastructural projects on the Zernike Campus Groningen:

'Upgrade Zernikelaan' in tender phase

The 'Upgrade Zernikelaan' project is in the tender phase. The Municipality expects to find a contractor in early 2019 who can carry out the work. As soon as the contractor is known, more details will become clear about the planning and the phasing of the project.

The Zernikelaan will be safer and more attractive. Therefore, the Zernikelaan will be completely renewed in the coming years. There will be a green promenade of 1600 meters long, with green strips and separate roads for busses and other traffic.

Street lighting at Penningsdijk & Paddepoelsterweg

New street lighting installed at Paddepoelsterweg

In recent times, work has been done to install street lighting on the Paddepoelsterweg, the new bicycle route to the Zernike Campus Groningen. This project has now been completed. Only the part underneath the Linnaeusborg has to be provided with additional lighting. This is planned at the beginning of next year.

Take the green route!

The new bike paths are extra wide and this route is often faster, quiet and green. And now also lightened. The use of this route is recommended by the UG and the Hanze. It also helps to reduce traffic jams from the ring road, because car traffic can flow better.

Street lighting is placed along the Paddepoelsterweg and Penningsdijk.
