Work at Linnaeusborg: building closed on Thursday evening, April 15

01 April 2021

In the message below, some construction activities in the Linnaeusborg are announced. It concerns mainly preparations to be able to start the upgrade of the Technical area North from the beginning of May. More details will follow later.

Linnaeusborg closed | Thursday 15 April 2021, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
In preparation of major works that will take place from 3 May onwards, temporary facilities will be prepared. This will require the shutdown of the central air extraction for the entire Linnaeusborg on Thursday evening, 15 April (except for building section 5174, the greenhouses and the isotope lab in the basement of 5172). This moment will also be used to carry out repairs to the existing extraction system. Due to this shutdown, it is not safe to be in the building and the building is closed.

Relocating heating room | 6 April - 21 May 2021
The existing heating room in the Technical area North has to make room for the new air handling units. Therefore, starting April 6, this heating room will be disassembled and reassembled in room 0923 until May 21, 2021.
This relocation has been postponed until the cold winter months have ended and additional heating with this heating room is no longer expected to be necessary. In principle, the temperature control in the building can take place during the spring season on the basis of the heat/cold storage in the ground.

Crane | Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 April 2021
At the beginning of week 15 a crane will be placed next to the building for one day. Old installation parts will be removed and new parts will be hoisted to the top.

Work in Technical area North | as of Monday 3 May 2021
As of Monday 3 May several major changes will be made in the Technical area North. Therefore, part of the return air will be disconnected. The faculty is strongly committed to limit the duration of the inconvenience. To this end, an additional financial investment was made in temporary facilities, to overcome the lab ventilation in the northern half of the Linnaeusborg, during three weeks. This is a substantial intervention that will reduce the inconvenience to only the preparatory work as explained before April 15. Though it remains unavoidable that during three weeks more than half of the local extraction points above the workbenches will be out of order in this part of the building. A further inventory on this shall be made in coordination with the concerning groups.

Lab conversions ninth floor almost complete
The conversion work on the ninth floor, where rooms 0932, 0938 and 0944 are being made suitable for chemical research, is almost complete. These new laboratories for the CBBC and the Stratingh Institute of Chemistry will be ready for use in the first half of May.

Contact
We realize that the work on April 15 in particular may cause inconvenience. If you have any questions, please contact housingfse@rug.nl. An overview of the renovation on the 8th and 9th floors can be found at "Sequence & Schedule".
