Research questions

Sexual abuse influences the development of foster children in a negative way. Young victims of sexual abuse are very vulnerable. They have special needs. Sadly, foster children have often endured other traumatic experiences next to sexual abuse prior to placement in foster care. In 2012, research from Commissie-Samson showed foster parents struggled with several things fostering children with a history of sexual abuse. The impact of fostering a child with such a traumatic life history was enormous on some of the studied foster families. Project Iris was set up to create a deeper understanding of what it means to families to foster a child with a history of sexual abuse.
