Funding body: NUFFIC

Duration: 01 January 2020 – 31 December 2021

This project builds on a proven concept of Participatory Action Research (PAR) carried out in Communities of Practice based in Agricultural Technical and Vocational Educational and Training (ATVET) institutes. It is situated in northern Mozambique (Niassa and Cabo Delgado) and carried out by Dutch/Portuguese partners and Mozambican University/TVET partners. The consortium offers long standing expertise on bridging higher education, TVET and the private sector (University of Groningen), strengthened with relevant, practical and technical expertise in semi-arid agriculture in Portuguese language (Escuela Superior Agrária de Coimbra - ESAC). The Faculties of Agriculture of Universidade Lúrio (Unilúrio) and Universidade Católica de Moçambique (UCM) are custodians of practical technical experimentation at three ATVET institutions in the region. The research accompanying the project will generate evidence based content useful for both ATVET curriculum development and policy input for service providers in agriculture. Learning outcomes of the ATVET institutes and of individual staff and students will be improved through work in communities of practice with high-level support, labour market-oriented value chain development and access to higher levels of earnings and more nutritious produce for the communities involved.
