Psychophysiology

Clinical Psychology

Evidence for physiological markers of state dissociation is scarce. Preliminary investigations suggest that the onset of this state might be marked by a peak in parasympathetic activity, resulting in a lower hear rate as well as higher heart rate variability. To test this hypothesis, physiological changes associated with the onset of dissociation will be studied in healthy subjects as well as patient samples. Dissociation will be studied as it occurs naturally (in patients) as well as when it is evoked artifically (in healthy subjects and patients). To this end, ecological momentary assessment using ambulatory acquisition of physiological data will be combined with a lab experiment.
