Andreas Flache appointed professor sociology
By January 1st 2013, Andreas Flache (1963) is appointed professor sociology, in particular the modeling of norms and networks. He studies the origin and compliance of norms of cooperation in situations of conflicting interests, such as in workgroups. In this he examines how social networks influence the mutual bond between groups with conflicting interests, cultures or norms. Flache uses mathematical modeling and computer simulations as theoretical instruments. His empiral research includes in particular experiments and field research on networks and norms in workgroups and schools.
Flache is board member of the ICS (Interuniversitary Centre of Social-Scientific Theory and Methodology). Since 2010 he also is director of the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Study Sociology at the University of Groningen.
