"soft cut"

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science has decided to once again apply a "soft cut" in the transfer to master's this year. This means that the transfer from the bachelor to the master for in the upcoming academic year (2022-2023) will be made more lenient.

You may start your master's program under conditions, even if you have not yet completed your bachelor's. So you can take master's courses in advance so that your study delay is minimized.

Conditions

This relaxation does come with conditions. The admissions committee of your master's programme decides whether you can be admitted. For the Master's programmes in Pedagogical Sciences and Educational Sciences, a "soft cut" will be allowed for enrolment in academic year 2022-2023 under the following conditions:

  • Your bachelor's deficiency is a maximum of 5 ECTS;
  • You have completed the bachelor's thesis with satisfactory results;
  • Any optional courses that are a prerequisite for admission to a master's track do not fall under the deficiency regulation.

Double enrolment

If you make use of this arrangement, you will therefore be enrolled for your bachelor's and master's degrees at the same time. You must complete your bachelor's in 2022-2023. You can only use the soft cut once. If you do not complete your bachelor's before 1 September 2023, you cannot re-enrol for your master's the following academic year. You can only do so once you have completed your bachelor's. During double enrolment, you will only pay tuition fees for your master's programme.

Procedure for admission Soft Cut February 2023

This does not apply to the Deafblindness track of the Master's in Educational Sciences, as it does not have a February start date.

If you think you are eligible for admission with the soft cut, the following is important:

  • Apply for your master's programme in Studielink before 1 January 2023. Also keep your bachelor's registration active. Your application will then be picked up automatically. Also start up your graduation procedure in Progresswww before 1 January. During January 2023, the Student Administration will check whether students who have registered for a master's programme in Studielink meet the admission criteria. This check is done on the basis of the graduation package in the graduation procedure.
  • Contact the academic advisor: studieadvies.pedok@rug.nl. It is wise to think carefully about planning your master's year while you still have bachelor's subjects to complete. The student advisor can help you draw up a realistic planning.

Are you an SPO student and do you think you qualify? If so, please contact Mandy van Oostwaard at m.van.oostwaard@rug.nl.

Please note: the last bachelor course or assessment will have to be in semester 2 of academic year 2022-2023 to be able to continue your master in September 2023.
