Smoothed particle hydrodynamics for fluid simulation in computer
graphics

In his thesis, Yanrui Xu uses a novel combination of methods and techniques to simulate fluid flow, like water streaming across obstacles in a physical setting. Xu's first contribution is a comprehensive review of what existing methods for this task have achieved in the last decade, which provides both practitioners and researchers with guidelines of what they can expect (and what not) concerning such methods. Next, he proposes several contributions to fluid simulation.

Xu introduces a scheme for improving simulation quality by dynamically distributing major computation resources only to the important areas. He then describes a method that improves the accuracy and computational efficiency of fluid interactions concerning several phases (substances being mixed in the flow). He also propose a novel technique for drawing simulations based on particles that yield better results with a limited cost. Overall, this work allows practitioners to generate simulations of fluid flow on a computer with higher speed, accuracy, and visual impact.
