Mechanics Department

The Faculty Technical Support (FTD) comprises various departments that support the research and teaching groups within the Faculty of Science and Engineering in developing and manufacturing equipment for research and education. This involves equipment for which no standard solutions are available.

Glass-blowing and Woodworking are part of the Mechanics Department. There is also a combined technical storeroom for the departments of Electronics and Mechanics.

Mechanics Department

  • designs and manufactures equipment, experimental facilities, and instruments for research and education in collaboration with academic staff, support staff, and students.
  • provides advice on construction, technical possibilities, materials, repairs, maintenance, and new equipment purchases.

Services

Knowledge is available about the following applications and techniques:

  • Conventional machining
  • Computer-operated turning and moulding, single pieces as well as small series
  • Joining techniques, such as welding, soldering and gluing, used for various materials
  • Plastics processing (gluing, welding, bending, polishing)
  • CAD/CAM/CAE, 3D design and drawing techniques (Autodesk Inventor, Siemens NX, Hypermill, Dcamcut)
  • Repair, maintenance and calibration of pipettes
  • Mechatronics
