Welcome to your Programme

(To be updated for 2024/2025)

Dear prospective student,

We would like to welcome you to the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) of the University of Groningen (UG) and inform you about the most important issues regarding the start of your pre-master programme in 2024/2025.

Your pre-master programme has been set up to help you bridge the gap between the knowledge and skills you learned during your previous education, and the master degree programme you'd like to follow. This in-between status of being a pre-master student can sometimes be difficult when so many other students are either a bachelor student or a master student.

We hope that the information on these pages and at the introduction in August will help you navigate your way through your pre-master programme. At the introduction, you will meet both pre-master students from other programmes and your own.

Introduction schedule

To help you make a great start here at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen and specifically in your programme, we have organized a number of activities around the start of your programme. We strongly encourage you to attend these. You can find more information under Kick-off activities.

Student portal

The Student Portal serves as the primary source of information for students. When you log in, you will automatically arrive on the ‘Today’ tab. Please also visit the ‘Study Info’ tab: it provides detailed information about your degree programme and the tracks/specializations therein, course units in the programme, etc. Please use your computer account to log on to the Student Portal, and read the relevant information about your degree programme, before the start in September. We expect all students in the programme to know the contents of this information. Extensive information about the programme will also be provided during the introduction days.

As a pre-master student, you will follow bachelor courses within the bachelor programme Pharmacy. It can therefore be useful to check the Student Portal Pharmacy for questions about courses or contact information for their academic advisors. If you want to look ahead, check the Student Portal Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences. Here you can find information about the various tracks within MPS.

Accommodation

Finding somewhere to live can be daunting, especially if you are moving to the Netherlands for the first time. Around 20,000 students will all be looking for a room at the same time in Groningen so start your search as soon as possible. It is your own responsibility to find somewhere to live. The University of Groningen does NOT provide accommodation for students. We advise that you start looking for accommodation as early as possible since it will be very difficult to secure somewhere to stay if you wait too long. Tips on looking for accommodation can be found on the University website.

Statistics

Knowing how statistics work and how to perform statistical test on your data is an important skill. If you do not plan on following the Biostatistics course, or you would like to brush up on statistics during the summer, please contact the academic advisor via academicadvisor.mps rug.nl. She help you get access to a selfstudy module.

We wish you a pleasant summer, and hope to welcome you in August/September!

Best regards,

Prof. dr. Frank Dekker – programme director of Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences

Glenda Vasse – degree programme coordinator

Ilja van den Broek – academic advisor

Monique Meis – management assistant
