Endowment Chair in Qualitative Methods Manipal University, India, for Ajay Bailey
Dr. Ajay Bailey of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences in Groningen, has been awarded the Dr. TMA PAI Endowment Chair in Qualitative Methods by Manipal University, India. The special chair comes with an endowment grant which will run for two years. As part of the endowed chair, Bailey will train young researchers and students in qualitative methods, organise international seminars/winter schools and contribute in setting up a transdisciplinary qualitative methods at Manipal University. This opportunity will further strengthen the faculty's and university's collaborations and research activities in India.
Bachelor students
As part of the collaboration between Manipal University in India and the University of Groningen, four students of the Bachelor programme Human Geography and Urban and Regional Planning in Groningen are studying South-South student migration and integration in Manipal this year, supervised by dr. Bailey and dr. Michael Thomas.

Winterschool in Manipal
In December 2015, dr. Bailey was one of the lecturers of the RUG-Manipal Winterschool on Qualtitative Methods for Health Research for Asia, at Public health Evidence South Asia, Manipal University. The Winterschool was conducted for the first time by the University of Groningen. The 33 participants come from India, Thailand, Italy, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, with occupations ranging from medicine, dentistry, occupational therapy, anthropology to demography.
