Master Population Studies

The Master in Population Studies of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences in Groningen is the best Master in the category ‘Geography and Planning‘ of the Higher Education Guide 2015 in the Netherlands. With a ranking of 76 out of 100 points, Population Studies has also been marked ‘ top-programme’. In 2014, the program received enough points to reach that status as well.

The Master in Population Studies teaches students the knowledge, methods and skills needed to understand - among others - population change, population ageing, fertility, migration, health, plus regional difference and inequalities therein. Essential to understanding population dynamics is the study of demographic behaviour of people, in terms of their life events, e.g. child bearing, residential choice, partnership, marriage, health, nutrition, ageing and migration. The master programme focuses on these demographic events, on how decision-making regarding these life events (e.g. its timing) is influenced by the geographical, historical, economic, societal, cultural, and medical context, and on how these demographic events have an impact on society at large.

Regional Studies best Research Master programme

The Research Master in Regional Studies also scores. In the category ‘Geographical Research Masters' the programme in Groningen is the best, followed by those in Utrecht and Amsterdam.
